  • HISTORY ASPECTS:
  • The HMS Hood was an Admiral-class battleship commissioned by the British Royal Navy in 1920. It was named after Samuel Hood, an 18th-century admiral, and was the lead ship of its class. The Hood had a distinguished service history, including its involvement in the Norway Campaign during World War II.
  • However, the ship is perhaps most well-known for its tragic end during the Battle of the Denmark Strait on May 24th, 1941. During the battle, the Hood was engaged in combat with the German battleship Bismarck when it was hit by a shell in its ammunition magazine. The resulting explosion tore the ship in half, and only three of the 1,418 crew members survived.
  • The sinking of the HMS Hood was a significant blow to the British Navy, as it was the largest and most powerful ship in the fleet at the time. The loss of the Hood led to a renewed effort to locate and sink the Bismarck, which was eventually accomplished a few days later.
  • The 1:700 scale model of the HMS Hood allows collectors and history enthusiasts to own a piece of naval history and pay tribute to the brave men who served aboard the ship. The finely-detailed model captures the essence of this iconic battleship, and its tragic end serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made during World War II.
